Block Chain and Smart Contracts will change the Education landscape

I remember when one of my friend had to apply to some US university and had to submit his documents, it was a long process of getting on phone calls with university in India, going to bank to pay and finally waiting for Indian University to send the documents to US University. Process was both time and labor intensive, it would just drain you out.

Smart Contracts is the way to go..

Fast Forward 2022, with Blockchain and Smart Contracts this all could change and with just few clicks all can be done, verified and completed. Smart Contracts for degrees, certificates, diploma will make this a reality in near future. The 2 areas where i believe will have quick adoptions will be —

1- Delivering Certificates and Degrees

This is not just limited to universities or colleges, it will be immensely help students in schools. Students applying in colleges, college students applying in any university globally. All your certificates, mark sheets, diplomas, degrees will be in block chain and can be verified instantly and with near impossible way to fudge the documents.

In next 5 years, this is the area where it will have mass adoption and it will streamline a lot of things, students who move from one school to another, their parents will not have to do numerous trips to school to get those transfer certificate.

2- Conducting Online Examination

Another area where i think it will pick after your certificates is exams, switching to online examinations. With many schools now forced to move to a hybrid model due to COVID-19, i see that as opportunity where a student from village or tier 2–3 cities can get admission in school in metro like Delhi. In those scenarios, conducting online examination will be equally important and that’s where Blockchain will come into play.

I can see complete cycle from conducting online examination to generation of results to awarding the certificates/degrees. With Blockchain it will guarantee the security, transparency, speed, accuracy and savings (both financial and environment).

COVID-19 has catalysed this process of transitioning from purely offline to online and to blockchain. With 5G and Broadband through satellite, trails of which already be conducted, things will change even faster than we all can imagine and will only help students get access to quality education and opportunities irrespective of their geographical locations.
